Diving - I have dove every place in Quintana Roo, Mahahual has more diving available then all of them combined! The 2nd largest barrier reef in the world starts a short boat trip away (Banco Chinchurro) offering wreck dives, reef dives, shark dives, croc dives, etc. Note: sharks are not an issue due to the safety provided by the barrier reef! 5. Mahahual has tons of sea life due to the two reefs it has, including tons of sea turtles, dolphins, manatees, lobster, and every fish around. This is not some place where you see a few fish and a lot of sand, with little reef. Snorkeling - I have been snorkeling all over the world. Also makes it a lot safer for the little swimmers too! 4. Swimming: Some may not like this (surfers), but for the rest of us, Mahahual has a barrier reef about 100 meters from the beach that makes for an awesome pool like enviroment without getting beaten up by huge waves all day. The Malecon: This is a boardwalk, and unlike Playa where you have both sides lined with buildings, Mahahual did it right, and has buildings on one side and the beach on the other! After all, that is why you came here right? Tons of shops, restaraunts, clubs, bars, ice cream places, mini-golf, hotels and vendors galore! 3. In some areas, you step into an area that has never been walked on before and sink in the none compacted white powder. It literally feels cool when it's over 100 degrees out. The sand is so fine it's like baby powder. However that is not why you come here either. This is a lazy little town that reminds me of Playa del Carmen in the late 80's before it turned into little Miami! The shopping is okay but not the greatest sections. If you get a chance to take a cruise that includes Costa Maya aka Mahahual, you will not be disappointed. Find a better price for any excursion we offer and we will refund you 110% of the price difference!” However, they only offer a 50% refund for an absolutely terrible experience. I had to laugh about the following note I found on the Carnival excursion website: “The Best Price Guarantee. In fact, the ship’s excursion manager hung up on me during our conversation about our experience. Consequently, I was completely shocked when they showed almost no empathy when we complained. We also felt that they’d guarantee our satisfaction. I’m not sure if the workers were unfriendly or just didn’t speak English! We always try to book our excursions via Carnival because we believed that they had been vetted by their knowledgeable and caring staff. Undercooked chicken and vegetables (I didn’t try the mystery meat). Explicit rap music playing on a loudspeaker. The Blue Lagoon was more like a Green Muddy River. Just to touch on a few of the low points…1. I’m extremely disappointed in their customer dis-service. After multiple conversations, Carnival only offered a 50% refund, plus their lack of empathy added undue stress and even anger to my vacation. Rather than a day of relaxation, it turned into multiple days of stress for my wife and me. This was our 15th cruise and without question, this was our worst adventure ever. Knowing what I know now, I would not go on this excursion even if Carnival paid me $69.99 to go. The best part of the excursion was when we left to go back to the ship. Shame on Carnival for offering this completely deceitful excursion. Uchbenkah Blue Lagoon Carnival Excursion in Costa May, Mexico on Tuesday, Septem(Marti Gras).
